Ananta Chaturthi (11-09-2011)
The 14th day of the bright half of Bhadrapad (Aug-Sep) is called अनन्तचतुर्दशी Anant Chaturdashi. On this auspicious day Lord Vishnu sleeping on the bed Anant (the serpent shesh), in the milky ocean is worshipped and meditated upon. People also observe a vow in honour of Vishnu, which if kept for 14 years is supposed to bring wealth.
This day is an auspicious day, when people take away their mind from worldly actions and devote themselves to God, listen to legends of God Vishnu, recite hymns from the Vedas. During the fast on this day, the worship is done in mid day. Anant means endless, infinite. The thread worn as armlet or round the neck, on this day, awards infinite happiness, by blessings of God Vishnu.
