Shraaddh 2011 (13th Sept to 27th Sept)

Pirtu paksha is special fortnight dedicated to Shraaddh rituals to dead ancestors or pitru devatas. It is also called as Sharaddh paksha or Mahalaya paksha. It commences on the padyami (the first day) of Ashwin month (September – October) and ends on the fifteenth day. North Indian calendar says it as the month Ashwin where as in south Indian calendar it is the Krishna paksha of Bhadrapada month. In this article, we shall know about the dates, legend and observations of Pitru paksha.

Pitru paksha 2011 starts on 13th September and ends on 27th September. Here are the Shraaddh dates for 2011:

  • 13th September – Mahalya Shradh Paksha begins
     
  • 14th September – Dwitiya Shradh
     
  • 15th September – Tritiya Shradh
     
  • 16th September – Chaturthi Shradh
     
  • 17th September – Panchami Shradh
     
  • 18th September – Shasti Shradh
     
  • 19th September – Saptami Shradh
     
  • 20th September – Ashtami Shradh
     
  • 21st September – Navami Shraddh
     
  • 22nd September – Dasami Shradh
     
  • 23rd September – Ekadashi Shradh
     
  • 24th September – Dwadashi Shradh
     
  • 25th September – Trayodashi Shradh
  • 26th September - Chaturdashi Shradh
  • 27th September - Mahalaya Amavasi
